New mayor, returning council member to be sworn in


Jeff Cheney will be sworn in as the next mayor of Frisco during Tuesday's Frisco City Council meeting. Tim Nelson will also be sworn in as the Place 5 council member.

Cheney and Nelson won their respective races in the May 6 municipal election. The race for the Place 6 seat is heading to a runoff election with Brian Livingston and Bobby Roberti as the two candidates. The runoff election takes place June 10, and early voting takes place May 30-June 6.

Frisco ISD to begin superintendent interviews this week


The board of trustees will conduct four interviews this week for the next superintendent. The interviews begin Wednesday, and the board plans to announce a finalist by June 2.

Superintendent Jeremy Lyon announced his retirement March 17. His last day with the district will be June 30.

Cowboys Fit to hold ribbon cutting Thursday


Cowboys Fit, the upscale fitness center at The Star in Frisco, will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon Thursday. The fitness center, located at 5 Cowboys Way, includes 60,000 square feet of space, a 40-yard sports turf, group fitness classes, a cycling room, a health and nutrition bar, and a heated rooftop pool.
