In 2004, Shay Geyer and her family were moving her mother’s once home-based interior design business into a 40,000-square-foot space in Frisco. The location seemed enormous to Geyer at the time. Little did she know that she would break ground on a 55,000-square-foot expansion 14 years later. “You wish you had a crystal ball for how your business will change and grow and expand over the years,” Geyer said. “I can remember when we built the building 14 years ago and my mom and I looking at it going, ‘We will never fill this up.’” IBB Design Fine Furnishings’ studio did fill up and is now adding a warehouse and a craftsman workshop in its expansion. IBB Design is a family business founded in 1982 by Geyer’s mother, who is still a part of the company. Geyer’s father also used to work for the business, and Geyer’s husband is now on staff. Her teenage daughter even worked at the studio over the summer. The business offers full-service interior design. Geyer said she and her design team can provide anything from a single piece of furniture to a custom interior design for an entire home. IBB Design’s studio includes a showroom where clients can browse for inspiration or shop for home furnishings. Clients can also meet with one of the designers on staff to design for a room or home. Geyer said most of her clients are from the Dallas-Fort Worth area, but her team has traveled across the United States and outside the country. “We go wherever the client wants us to go,” she said. “We’ve got projects in California, Colorado, Florida, Cabo [San Lucas].” Geyer said many of IBB Design’s clients end up becoming friends with her team. She said designing someone’s home develops a relationship. “When you’re working on somebody’s home, you’re creating this backdrop for life’s memories for them,” Geyer said. “It’s a personal experience.” IBB Design Fine Furnishings 5798 Genesis Court, Frisco 214-618-6600 www.ibbdesign.com Hours: Mon.-Wed., Fri. 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Thurs. 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Sat. 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
