Town Secretary Shannon Montgomery said the resignation was effective immediately. Montgomery said she couldn’t provide any more details on the resignation, directing Community Impact to the town’s chief of police, who is also the acting town administrator.
Kirk Riggs, the police chief, did not immediately respond to requests for comment in time for publication. Chambers also could not be reached for comment.
What else?
While there was little discussion of the resignation Dec. 17, the council voted during its November meeting to ratify the mayor’s appointment of Riggs as acting town administrator “to serve in the absence of Town Administrator Thad Chambers,” according to town documents. The motion also included a $6,000 increase to Riggs' monthly salary and was approved unanimously.
In September, the council also voted to take the power to appoint the police chief away from the town administrator. That responsibility is now under the council’s purview.
