Flower Mound resident and pickleball enthusiast Rob Stewart said he wants Flower Mound town leaders to consider more space for the sport at the Community Activity Center.

"The gymnasium was designed before pickleball, so since then it's been adapted, and there's some shortcomings in the adaptation," he said, adding he thinks more pickleball courts should be added as the sport's popularity increases.

Stewart and a few dozen other people attended a public meeting Jan. 30 at the center to provide input for a feasibility study.

Also on Jan. 30, Flower Mound town officials held a meeting at Flower Mound Fire Station No. 1 to solicit ideas on the town's economic development strategic plan, including how town leaders should address growth.

The background

Representatives from Barker Rinker Seacat Architecture, which is performing a feasibility study, attended the Community Activity Center meeting to present information on what kind of amenities could be added to the center. At the meeting for the economic strategic development meeting, representatives from TIP Strategies presented information and asked for feedback from around 15 attendees, who provided input through their phones that was displayed on the screen.

At the Community Activity Center, attendees answered questions about Flower Mound, such as its appeal as a place to live, and gave ideas on what they wanted to see at the center. Pickleball, indoor play space, a lap pool for exercise and an incline track were among some of the most popular ideas.

The feasibility study is expected to be ready in late August. An online survey for possible expansion and renovation of the center can be found here and will be available until March 1.

With the economic plan, residents were asked questions, such as what has been Flower Mound's biggest successes in the last 10 years, with the Lakeside mixed-used development being one of the repeated responses. As responses were displayed, attendees offered their opinions.

Officials expect the strategic plan to be finished by June and be presented at a future City Council meeting.
