Early voting results released by Denton and Tarrant counties show Madison Lopez is leading current Lewisville ISD trustee Michelle Alkhatib in the race to fill the unexpired term for at-large trustee, Place 6.

Some context

LISD trustees approved calling a special election to fill the vacant Place 6 seat Aug. 25. The place was vacated when former trustee Buddy Bonner resigned in July to avoid a conflict with the district’s nepotism guidelines.

Place 6 is elected at-large meaning that anyone within LISD’s boundaries can cast ballots for the trustee position. LISD has a hybrid election system where places 1 through 5 are single-member districts while places 6 and 7 elected at-large.

Also of note

In early voting, there were 59,821 ballots cast countywide, which represents 9% of Denton County's 664,921 registered voters. In Tarrant County, 114,130 early voting ballots were cast, which is 8.89% of Tarrant County’s 1.28 million registered voters.

Totals from ballots cast Nov. 4 have yet to be released. Polls closed at 7 p.m., although voters who were in line at 7 p.m. were still able to cast ballots.
