At first glance it may appear like a typical storefront selling pet food, hardware and tools, but a walk down the aisles reveals a complete source of animal care from food to supplementation. And if customers look closely they might just spot a cat or two nestled on one of the shelves.
The store sells feed for animals ranging from dogs, cats, guinea pigs, hedgehogs and reptiles to horses, cattle, rabbits, goats, alpacas and birds as well as feed for exotic animals, such as kangaroos, zebras and tortoises on special order, General Manager Ruby Beutter said. Complementing the feed are products for skin and coat issues, toys, bedding, materials for building fencing or pens, and more.
At the heart of the business is its delivery service, which operates in a 30-mile radius, trucking feed and hay bales to customers up to 15 times a day, Beutter said. Argyle, Bartonville, Denton, Lewisville, Highland Village and Copper Canyon are just a few areas that receive daily loads.
The store is also the only Purina feed distributor out to Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, delivering 8-12 tons of hay per trip, she said.
On the hardware side, the store carries a slew of nuts, bolts and washers in nearly every size, and sells a range of Stihl and Milwaukee power tools. It is also equipped with a service department which maintains and repairs Stihl lawn equipment, Beutter said. More recently, the business has started offering home and gardening products, such as soil, fertilizer and ceramic pottery.
“We are hoping to build an entire garden center in spring 2024 and start selling plants from a greenhouse,” she said.
The store is also bringing back special events, which took a backseat during a recent renovation, but will return in the coming months. Plans include hosting monthly meetings with experts on dog nutrition and the best dog food brands as well as setting up a pumpkin patch display for photo opportunities, Beutter said.
The company strives to help customers research specific care needs and provide information on best practices, which can be essential when engaging in processes such as hatching chicks. The store sells everything from incubation chambers to warming lamps to ensure adequate care, she said. For those who want to skip the hatching process, the store sells live baby chicks from January through April.
“I want [customers] to feel like all of their needs are met, that their questions were answered thoroughly and that they can count on us when they need something done,” Beutter said.
