Brandon Boyter, DISD’s executive director of construction planning and growth, gave an update on several district projects during a Sept. 23 school board meeting. Projects are listed in alphabetical order.
Borman Elementary School
The rebuild of Borman Elementary was included in the district’s 2023 bond program. The district is building a replacement school on the same property where the campus is located. Students will continue attending the current school until the new campus is complete, according to district documents.
Project updates:
- Underground mechanical, electrical and plumbing work has begun.
- Piers and grade beams are being installed.
- Grackle Street construction is ongoing.
- The placement of concrete slabs, structural steel and roofing in some areas will begin soon.
The district’s fifth high school campus, which was included in the 2023 bond program, is located in the town of Cross Roads.
Project updates:
- The main building slab and underground utilities are complete.
- Construction of the storm shelter and structural steel is ongoing.
- Work on fire lanes and parking lots has begun.
- Upcoming tasks include the main building concrete block, the construction of auxiliary buildings and utility relocations on Naylor Road.
Improvements to Hodge Elementary’s safety and security, technology, and building are complete. As part of the 2023 bond program, renovations were made to the classrooms, campus kitchen, library and collaboration areas. The administration area has also been redesigned, and new furniture will be added throughout the school.
Project updates:
- Classrooms have new flooring, cabinets, windows, doors and hardware.
- Kitchen upgrades include a new freezer, cooler and serving lines.
- Digital marquee signage has been placed outside.
- Concrete repairs have been completed in the parking lot and sidewalks.
- Portable buildings have been removed.
The W.S. Ryan Elementary improvements include upgrades to the automatic door locking system, security cameras and interior refreshes, and were completed in August. Renovations to the school were included in the 2023 bond program.
Project updates:
- New furniture has been installed throughout the school.
- Collaboration areas are built throughout the school.
- Concrete repairs have been completed in the parking lot and sidewalks.
- An outdoor learning courtyard was constructed.
