Plano/Richardson-based house cleaning company The Cleaning Authority has partnered with Cleaning for a Reason to provide free cleaning services to female cancer patients in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Started in 2006, Cleaning for a Reason is a nonprofit organization based in Lewisville that partners with local house cleaning companies to provide free cleaning services to women undergoing treatment for any type of cancer. The partnership has helped more than 22,000 women in the U.S. and Canada in services valued at more than $6 million.

The Cleaning Authority owners Susan Thrift and her husband, Allen, took over the Richardson business in late 2014 after the previous owner retired. The Thrifts and their team of house cleaners serve Plano, Frisco, Carrollton and Dallas.

The couple began offering the free services in July and are looking for more clients to assist, Susan said. The outreach includes free house cleanings once a month for four months.

“I think it’s fantastic. My nephew had cancer and was diagnosed when he was 4 [years old] and died when he was 9 [years old]," Susan said. "I watched what my sister went through caring for him and cleaning the house was her last priority."
