At a recent Allen City Council meeting, Allen officials took action on an interlocal agreement, parks assistance funding and more.
Here’s everything you need to know about Allen City Council’s June 9 meeting.
1. Interlocal agreement with Plano for library materials
As part of the consent agenda, council members approved an interlocal agreement between the cities of Allen and Plano for reciprocal lending of library materials.
The two cities had a formal interlocal agreement for sharing library materials from 1992 to 2010 and have had an informal agreement since then, city documents state. This formally reestablishes the partnership for one year with the option to renew for five one-year terms, per city documents.
As of April 2026, there are 6,189 Allen residents with Plano library cards and 2,020 Plano residents with Allen library cards, city documents state.
2. Application for parks funding
Council members approved applying for Collin County Parks and Open Space Funding Assistance for the Molsen Farm project.
If the city receives the funding, staff will use the funds for the initial design phase of the project, including design of a greenhouse, tree farm, community gardens and other related infrastructure, per city documents.
Collin County will announce recipients of grant funding in fall 2026, city documents state.
3. Electing a new mayor pro tem
Mayor Chris Schulmeister, who was sworn into office at a May 26 meeting, recommended Carl Clemencich to serve as mayor pro tem. After a discussion in executive session, the motion passed.
Schulmeister previously served as mayor pro tem and said the experience was "extremely helpful,” and he thinks the responsibility should be rotated among council members.
He thanked former Mayor Pro Tem Ben Trahan for his time in the role.
“He served exceptionally well, and he now has that experience and knowledge under his belt,” Schulmeister said.
Looking ahead
Allen City Council will meet again at 6 p.m. June 23 for a work session, followed by its regular meeting at 7 p.m. at Allen City Hall.
