Allen to launch registration, inspection program for single-family rental homes
All owners of single-family rental homes in Allen will be required to register their properties with the city by the end of January.
Allen City Council approved two ordinances establishing a Single-Family Rental Inspection Program at an Oct. 13 meeting.
Rental properties make up 14% of the city’s single-family housing, but generated 38% of the total property maintenance violations in 2025, Director of Community Enhancement Lee Battle said.
The ordinance defines a single-family rental unit as a house, townhome or duplex, and requires owners of these properties to register annually with the city, per city documents. In addition, the ordinance authorizes city staff to complete an annual inspection of the exterior of the home and follow up on tenant complaints.
