Two candidates are running for Texas House District 132 in the Nov. 3 election, challenger Sara McGee and Mike Schofield who is seeking reelection.

Early voting begins Oct. 19 and runs through Oct. 30, according to the Texas Secretary of State's website. Election day is Nov. 3 and polls are open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

What would your top priorities be if elected?<br>
After listening to thousands of residents, my top priorities include ensuring you can afford to keep living here by lowering insurance rates and the cost of government, including meaningful and permanent property tax cuts. I will also keep our neighborhoods safe by requiring district attorneys to prosecute violent criminals.
What are the biggest challenges facing this district?
The fast growth of our area continues to bring increased traffic, longer commutes, and the increased risk of flooding and crime. As your representative, I will continue to do the real work of working with you to plan ahead and push government to craft real solutions, not empty political slogans.
What are your priorities for the future of Texas education?
Texas put an extra $8.5 billion into public schools to raise teacher pay and ensure each student receives a strong foundation in reading and math, and that college-bound students and those who prefer a technical career can both be fully prepared to meet their goals in life.
What will you do to support small businesses and promote economic growth in Texas?
Small businesses provide most of the jobs and economic growth in our community. Yet mom and pop businesses are hurting. For Texas to continue to thrive, we must cut the excessive regulations, taxes, and frivolous lawsuits that make it hard for them to pay their bills and provide jobs.
What will you do to bring down the cost of living for Texas residents?
Every level of government has tools to help bring down the cost of living. At the state level, the Legislature will limit the amount local governments can charge in property taxes, and we must fix our broken homeowners and auto insurance markets so you can afford to live here.

What are the biggest challenges facing this district?
HD132 is growing faster than our infrastructure can keep up. Families face rising property taxes, insurance costs, overcrowded roads, strained schools, and concerns about flooding and unchecked development. We must protect our public schools, invest in infrastructure, manage growth responsibly, and ensure corporations contribute fairly to the communities they impact.
What are your priorities for the future of Texas education?
My priorities are fully funding public schools, raising teacher pay, reducing classroom sizes, and ensuring every child has access to an excellent education regardless of ZIP code. Texas must invest in special education, school safety, and career pathways while keeping public tax dollars in our public schools.
What will you do to support small businesses and promote economic growth in Texas?
I will fight to make Texas a place where small businesses can compete and thrive by reducing barriers, expanding access to capital, investing in workforce development, and strengthening infrastructure. Economic growth should benefit our communities, not just large corporations receiving special incentives. Texas should reward entrepreneurship, innovation, and local investment.
What will you do to bring down the cost of living for Texas residents?
I will fight to lower property taxes, reduce insurance and healthcare costs, and make housing more affordable. Texas must fully fund public schools so homeowners are not carrying an unfair burden, increase competition in insurance markets, protect consumers from excessive costs, and ensure economic growth benefits working families, not corporations alone.
What would your top priorities be if elected?
My top priorities are fully funding our public schools, lowering the cost of living and homeownership, and ensuring growth doesn’t come at the expense of our communities. I’ll fight for responsible development, infrastructure that keeps pace with growth, accessible healthcare, strong public safety, and accountability for corporations using our resources.
