Meet the candidates for Harris County Attorney

Why did you decide to run for this position?

As County Attorney, I’m leading the charge for our families: taking on scammers and slumlords who prey on seniors and the vulnerable; cracking down on domestic abusers; standing up to polluters to protect our air and water; suing Trump and Abbott to protect our democracy; and holding greedy corporations accountable.

What would your top priorities be if elected?

My overriding priority for the next three months is to protect every eligible voter’s rights, free and fair elections, and our democracy. We’re already in court fighting Trump to protect the rule of law and safeguard critical public safety dollars that are being hijacked as Trump attempts to create chaos.

How would you maintain transparency with the public in terms of ongoing lawsuits and major events county residents should be aware of if elected?

You have a right to know what your government is doing. I take that very seriously. We’ve hit the ground running creating an extensive outreach program to keep residents and neighborhoods informed. I will do everything within my power and under the law to protect the public’s right to transparency.

How would you balance high-profile litigation with everyday responsibilities if elected?

Keeping the business of our county moving matters, regardless of a headline. As a mother, balancing is what I do every day. I’m fortunate to have an incredible and dedicated office of attorneys and staff. Together, we ensure our work gets done, no matter how high-profile or routine it is.

Why did you decide to run for this position?

I spent over a decade of my career serving and protecting Harris County taxpayers by providing nonpartisan, independent counsel to all HC officials—the actual role of the County Attorney. This office has been undermined to advance political agendas. I want to restore integrity, transparency, and accountability to this office.

What would your top priorities be if elected?

I will be proactive not reactive, serving all of Harris County. As County Attorney, I will be an independent voice, not a rubber stamp. My record proves I have that resolve, challenging a judge from my own party who was abusing his office and removing him from the bench.

How would you maintain transparency with the public in terms of ongoing lawsuits and major events county residents should be aware of if elected?

Tax dollars pay for litigation involving Harris County, so residents are entitled to know what they are buying. I will make transparency a standard practice, not an afterthought—providing non- privileged information on cases and cost. I will report information on significant legal matters impacting Harris County, including CA Opinions issued.

How would you balance high-profile litigation with everyday responsibilities if elected?

High-profile cases will always get attention. The everyday work is what gets overlooked, and that is a management problem I have solved before. I inherited a court with a backlog approaching 10,000 cases. I tried 100 jury trials my first year on the bench and disposed of thousands more.
