In a statement, Curt Maddux said he was very happy with the voter turnout.
"I fell just short, but our team is working hard to get together to get us a victory in the end," Maddux said. "I look forward to June 15 and the runoff. We're excited."

Duke Coon, who is headed to a runoff in the Conroe mayoral election, said he believes the campaign's message is resonating.
"I bring the business acumen and the qualifications to be the mayor of this great city," Coon said. "And we're ready to lead. ... We are ready for the next portion, the next part of this campaign. Our volunteers are ready, and we're excited about June 15."
Coon is set to face Place 1 council member Todd Yancey in the runoff election.
"We're going to hit the ground running probably starting Monday and we'll be ready again in about a month," Yancey said.
David Hairel, who is set to face Susan Johnson in the race for Conroe City Council Place 1, said he is "very pleased and thankful that we got into a runoff."
"Folks came out and I think we had a very good showing today, and I'm grateful for that," Hairel said. "We look forward to ... winning an election and bringing a new day of leadership for the citizens of Conroe."

With 24 out of 24 election day precincts reporting, all three Conroe municipal races are headed for runoffs on June 15 after no individual candidate received a majority of the votes, according to Montgomery County results.
In the race for mayor, Duke Coon and Todd Yancey received the most votes with 46% and 48%, respectively.
For the Place 2 City Council race, incumbent Curt Maddux received 47% of the vote while challenger Shana Arthur received 41% of the vote.
In the race for Place 1 on City Council, David Hairel and Susan Johnson are headed for a runoff after receiving 41% and 46% of the vote, respectively.

With 17 of 24 election day precincts reporting, Place 1 council member Todd Yancey, who is running for mayor, has gained the lead with 48% of the vote. Fellow candidates Duke Coon and Kristin Wilkinson-Guardino have 46% and 7% of the vote, respectively.
In the race for Place 2, incumbent Curt Maddux continues to lead with 47% of the vote. Challengers Shana Arthur and Betty Boren Avery have 41% and 12% of the vote, respectively.
For Place 1, Susan Johnson and David Hairel are the top vote-getters, with 46% and 41% of the vote, respectively. Carl White and Thomas R. Bersch follow behind with 11% and 2% of the vote, respectively.

According to unofficial results from Montgomery County, Duke Coon is narrowly leading in the race for Conroe mayor with 47% of the vote. Place 1 council member Todd Yancey, who is running for mayor, has 46% of the vote, and Kristin Wilkinson-Guardino has 6% of the vote.
In the race for Place 2, incumbent Curt Maddux is leading challengers Shana Arthur and Betty Boren Avery with 45% of the vote. Arthur has 43% and Avery has 11%.
For City Council Place 1, David Hairel and Susan Johnson are leading, with 43% and 45% of the vote, respectively. Fellow candidates Carl White and Thomas R. Bersch have 10% and 2% of the vote, respectively.
In races with more than two candidates, the top two vote-getters will advance to a runoff on June 15 if no individual candidate receives a majority of the votes.
