Sunset Valley Mayor Rose Cardona announced July 29 through a city press release that a monthslong search for a new city administrator had concluded, with Sylvia Carrillo-Trevino accepting the position. Carrillo-Trevino was chosen from a pool of 54 candidates and will take the reins from interim City Administrator Sara Wilson in September, according to the release.
Carrillo-Trevino has over 20 years of experience in public administration and service, predominantly in local government. She will join the city staff of Sunset Valley off the heels of her contract position as development manager of Odessa. Previously, she served as city manager of Aransas Pass, as well as assistant city manager of Corpus Christi.
“This position will allow me to do what I love, that is to serve the public in the most meaningful way I know how; improving the quality of life through cooperative and attentive government,” Carrillo-Trevino said in the release.
The city’s search for a new city administrator began in January when former City Administrator Clay Collins
announced that he would retire April 30. City Council initially selected third-party firm Strategic Government Resources to head the search March 5 and
appointed Assistant City Administrator Sara Wilson to the interim position shortly thereafter. However, Strategic Government Resources removed itself from the project less than a month later, forcing the city to
choose another firm, Chris Hartung Consulting, to take over, and drawing out the process.
Sunset Valley’s announcement of the hire is consistent with the
updated timeline City Council put forth for the search in May, when Cardona said the city planned to extend an offer by July 26.
