Tumble 22 opens its Arboretum location Nov. 7, leading this week’s dining news across the metro.
Elsewhere, Sichuan heat lands on Brodie Lane in South Austin, an all-day breakfast bar opens in downtown Round Rock, a cocktail spot pours draft drinks off RM 620 and a Hyde Park sushi bar from the McElroy brothers gears up for its November debut.
Plus, in this week’s feature, Texas wagyu pho and Asian-inspired cocktails in Hutto.
South Austin’s newest Sichuan spot takes over the former Beijing Wok space with a menu built on heat, including Chongqing chili chicken, dan dan noodles, mapo tofu and dry-fried green beans. Patrons can start with soup dumplings, crab rangoons or wontons, then dig into soups, noodles, rice and seafood dishes.
Downtown Round Rock has a new all-day hangout from local owner Brian Hernandez, serving an Americana take on breakfast, lunch and dinner. The concept serves classic staples like French toast, smash burgers and build-your-own breakfast tacos, backed by coffee for the morning crowd and draft beers, wine and specialty cocktails for later in the day.
Northwest Austin’s latest cocktail bar pours rotating draft cocktails alongside beer and wine, with plenty to share, such as the toasted sourdough with Texas honey butter, pork belly cracklins, seared tuna and crispy wings. Heartier picks include a double smash burger and the ATX Melt, stacked with brie, gruyere, bacon and fig jam.
Northwest Austin’s newest hot chicken fix comes from Tumble 22, the homegrown brand led by Avid Noble. Doors open at 11 a.m., and the first 75 guests get a free O.G. sandwich monthly for a year. Customers can expect crispy or Korean-style bone-in chicken, slaw and a full bar. A South Lamar location follows in 2027.
Hyde Park gets its own sushi bar in the former Uncle Nicky’s space, from brothers Ryan and Wade McElroy—the team behind Bird Bird Biscuit and Love Supreme—and former-Soto chef Moto Seto. Guests can expect Toyosu Market fish as nigiri and sashimi, plus maki like truffle honey salmon, hand rolls and small plates, paired with sake and natural wine.
From Texas wagyu pho to Asian-inspired cocktails, Bites & Basil is putting a modern spin on Vietnamese cuisine in Hutto.
The background
Married couple Tumy and Phen Diep opened Bites & Basil in early January, building on the success of Broth & Basil, which they launched in Pflugerville in 2019. The couple saw room for more Vietnamese food in Hutto and a chance to grow their menu.
“Hutto is such a fast-growing city,” Tumy Diep said.

On the menu
The restaurant’s most popular dish is its pho wagyu, made with beef from Austin-based Ranger Cattle. Tumy Diep said Bites & Basil was the first Austin-area restaurant to serve it. Other options include pho beef rib, marinated pork chop and rice, and vermicelli bowls. A bigger kitchen and full bar also make room for bar food like chicken wings and bun sliders.
Happy hour runs 3-6 p.m., and the restaurant closes Sundays so staff can spend the day with family.
