Historic Central Austin estate to become boutique hotel, residences The estate, located on Red River Street, will include a restaurant.[/caption] A small luxury hotel will be developed at the site of the historic Commodore Perry Estate in Central Austin in the next two years. Local developers announced today that the estate, located at 4100 Red River St., will become a boutique, 53-room hotel by mid-2019. The restoration will include a restaurant, organic gardens and event space. Residences will also be added during the second phase of construction. The project is managed by Auberge Resorts Collection, which manages hotels, resorts, residences and private clubs in California, Colorado, Mexico, Utah, Fiji and the British West Indies. “As we have with the other historic hotels in our collection, we will honor the architectural heritage of the estate while infusing it with the unique character that defines Austin," said Craig Reid, president and CEO of Auberge Resorts Collection, in a news release. The estate, comprising 10,800 square feet, was built in 1928 by a Dallas architect and was home to Edgar and Lutie Perry, two prominent Austin business and civic leaders. According to the estate's website, the estate served as a private school and a space for events since the Perrys sold it in 1944. it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Clark Lyda, one of the local developers for the site, said developers worked closely with the neighborhood over the last five years to ensure the architecture and original structures of the estate would remain intact. "We’re thrilled to begin the process of preservation work this fall to maintain the property as one of Austin’s most cherished gathering places," he said.
