Leander's new City Manager Rick Beverlin to start Dec. 2

Leander’s new City Manager Rick Beverlin’s first day on the job will be Dec. 2, according to a Nov. 8 press release from the city.

Beverlin, currently the assistant city manager of Galveston, has experience overseeing development services, public transportation and grant management, according to the release. In the past, he has worked as the economic development director of League City, Texas, and as a city administrator in Kemah, Texas. He also has experience in the private sector, having worked as vice president of government affairs for the Goodman Corporation.

"Our council believes that as one of the greatest and fastest-growing livable cities in the nation, Leander deserves the best leadership, and Rick exemplifies the type of leadership traits we want," Mayor Troy Hill said in the release. "We look forward to many successful years under his guidance and welcome him and his family to our town."

Beverlin said in the release that he is excited to move to Leander.

"I'm humbled to be coming on board and grateful for the professional, helpful and warm welcome I've received from city representatives,” Beverlin said in the release. "I look forward to building on Leander's outstanding potential and will work to strengthen our profile as a sought-after destination community."

Beverlin is taking on this new role as the city is preparing to begin its comprehensive plan update next year. The Leander population has almost doubled since the last comprehensive plan update in 2015, according to the city.

Beverlin takes the place of former City Manager Kent Cagle, who was fired in May. Cagle filed a lawsuit against the city in August, and he and the city came to a settlement agreement in September.
