A Bastrop resident traded hot dogs for potato chips when he rebranded his business from Judy’s Dogs to Judy’s Taters in late December.
What we know
Judy’s Taters is a homemade potato chip vendor, which uses beef tallow and other locally sourced ingredients in its products.
Orders can be placed by messaging owner Steve Moore on Facebook.
“I will be selling my beef tallow potato chips wherever I can,” he said.
Some background
Moore named the business in memory of his mother, Judy Lockwood Moore.
“She always had the dream of opening up some kind of food establishment,” he told Community Impact. “She died in 2006 from scleroderma and never got to see that happen. I always promised myself that if I ever opened up any kind of food establishment, I would name it after her.”
At 44, Moore left his corporate job as an industrial painter—a role he held most of his adult life—and later chose to dedicate his free time to Judy’s Dogs, which served elevated takes on the classic hot dog.
Although he transitioned away from selling all-beef hot dogs after sales weren’t great, Moore said he is actively exploring how he can improve.
“I really want to make this work,” he said. “I don’t want to see it fail.”
The outlook
Moore announced he will soon begin selling Jalapeño-flavored potato chips.
“Although the development phase took longer than anticipated, the outcome will justify the wait,” he said. “Further enhancements are forthcoming, so stay tuned.”
