Voting totals in Williamson and Travis counties show Ronald Abruzzese and Jerry Perez moving to a runoff election for the Place 4 Leander City Council race.

Based on unofficial final totals, Abruzzese received 27.10 percent of the votes in Williamson County and 39 percent of the votes in Travis County, for a total of 342 votes. Perez garnered 18.25 percent of the votes in Williamson County and 9 percent of the votes in Travis County, with a total of 213 votes.

Since neither candidate reached 50 percent of the total votes, Abruzzese and Perez will face off again on Dec. 17, with early voting Dec. 2–13, Leander City Secretary Debbie Haile said. Council must officially call the runoff election, which will likely only be held at Pat Bryson Municipal Hall for voters in both counties, she said.

Dan Michie received 14.58 percent of the votes in Williamson County and 16 percent of the votes in Travis County for a total of 179 votes.

Randy Caldwell drew a total of 160 votes, including 12.88 percent of the votes in Williamson County and 16 percent of the votes in Travis County.

Bob Hanson received 12.34 percent of the votes in Williamson County and 20 percent of the votes in Travis County for a total of 158 votes.

All results are unofficial until canvassed. The term expires in May 2015.

Among five candidates, Ronald Abruzzese is leading the race for Leander City Council Place 4 with 44 percent of the early votes in Williamson County and 23 percent of the early votes in Travis County.

Challenger Dan Michie received 17 percent of the votes Williamson County and 21 percent of the votes in Travis County during early voting.

In Williamson County, candidate Jerry Perez received 19 percent of the total votes during early voting. In Travis County, he received 11 percent of the early votes.

Challenger Randy Caldwell tallied 15 percent of the Williamson County early votes and 4 percent of Travis County early votes.

Candidate Bob Hanson received 13 percent in Williamson County and 18 percent of the votes in Travis County, based on early voting totals.

In Williamson County, 331 votes were cast for the candidates. A total of 43 early votes were cast in Travis County.

None of the candidates have previously served on the Leander City Council. However, Abruzzese is the current chairman of the city's Planning and Zoning Commission.

Caldwell, Perez and Hanson previously ran for a place on the council. All seats are elected at-large. The term expires in May 2015.

The special election for Place 4 was called in September after Michell Cantwell announced Aug. 27 her resignation in order to run for Williamson County treasurer in 2014.

Early voting was Oct. 21–Nov. 1.
