Precourt Sports Ventures, the operating group of Major League Soccer's Columbus Crew, has yet to sit down with the city of Austin to negotiate a partnership to build a stadium in the city.
City staff members from 14 departments are studying the fit between a city-owned plot of land at 10414 McKalla Place in North Austin and Major League Soccer, and their report is due to city council by Friday.
Although there are no formal negotiations taking place, PSV has made some elements of its stadium proposal publicly available to give Austinites a sense of what the operating group is envisioning.
On May 15, PSV released a site plan for the McKalla Place stadium, including details on parking spaces, walkways and trails and event spaces on the grounds around the stadium for the 24.9-acre space.
And on Thursday, PSV released renderings for the proposed stadium–a first look at the vision for the design of the field and the surrounding grounds.
The renderings come from architecture firms Gensler, TBG and CAA Icon.
"While influenced by great European venues, with intimate seating bowls that put fans right on top of the action, we are also drawing heavily on the incredibly diverse and vibrant local culture, to create a uniquely ‘Austin’ experience for MLS fans," said Jonathan Emmett, principal and design director of the Gensler Sports Practice in a statement.
The renderings feature a roof canopy over the stadium seating, which Emmett said "will ensure ample shading while strategically placed open corners will allow for cooling breezes."
PSV president Dave Greeley told
Community Impact Newspaper that finding uses for the stadium grounds outside of match days is a key objective in the stadium proposal. The site plan includes a performance space outside the grounds for concerts and events, and the aerial view of the stadium features designs for some of those landscaped spaces, which Emmett said "will be active on gamedays and non-gamedays alike."
