After a package bomb detonated in a FedEx Ground facility in Schertz and injured one person on Tuesday morning, Federal Bureau of Investigation agents spent much of the day at a FedEX facility at 5601 Brodie Lane, Sunset Valley.

Sunset Valley Police Chief Lenn Carter told City Council Tuesday eventing he believes the investigation may have led to new evidence that the FBI could use to determine a suspect.

"“The FBI was able to determine that bomb [in Schertz] and a bomb that had been intercepted before it exploded [near the airport] originated in Sunset Valley at the FedEx station here on Brodie,” Carter said. “They did an investigation and it looks like they will likely be able to find some more suspect evidence than they had been able to do previously.”

Sunset Valley police aided the FBI at the local FedEx, which was closed Tuesday. The parking lot directly in front of the suite had been blocked off from about 5 a.m. until about 5 p.m. All other businesses in the Sunset Valley Village shopping center remained open during the investigation.

Carter said the 12-man Sunset Valley police force is not alone in protecting local residents during the current situation.

“Our department has been making updates about the bombings that have been occurring throughout the city of Austin, Sunset Valley Mayor Rose Cardona said at the meeting. "The FBI was working with Sunset Valley throughout the day starting at about 5 a.m. I want to commend our amazing police officers [who] spent the entire day looking out for not only for us, but for helping the FBI."
