The ongoing road work along I-35 near William Cannon Drive and Stassney Lane will continue until at least the middle of 2021, according to the latest update by the Texas Department of Transportation released Nov. 12.
The $78.8 million project reconstructed the William Cannon and Stassney bridges and has improved ramps on and off I-35 over the past four years.
According to TxDOT's Mobility35 newsletter, crews will continue to pave sections of the project this month. Paving of I-35’s northbound lanes was completed earlier this month.
At the start of 2020, TxDOT was scheduled to complete two South Austin projects by the end of the year—the William Cannon/Stassney project and a project on I-35 at Oltorf Street. While the Oltorf project wrapped construction June 25, in August, TxDOT pushed back the estimated completion for the current, ongoing project to December; it was delayed again, this time to mid-2021, in the Nov. 12 update.
