1. I-35 South Austin project set to finish by end of 2020

A project to improve a 3.2-mile stretch of I-35 spanning the intersections with Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive is approaching its end date this year, according to the project website. Crews reconstructed bridges over the highway on both William Cannon and Stassney, and work this fall necessitated the temporary closures of some I-35 lanes and frontage roads in late October. The project was initially set to finish this summer before it was pushed back to the end of the year.

2. Oak Hill Parkway construction will start in mid-2021

A major highway project that was initially set to begin late in 2020 has pushed its groundbreaking to mid-2021, according to a press release from TxDOT. The project will expand the roadway to two to three main lanes and two to three frontage roads in each direction in an effort to relieve traffic near the intersection of Hwys. 290 and 71. In August, TxDOT authorized Colorado River Constructors to begin its $677.1 million design-build contract for the project.

3. Intersections work set to begin at Parker Lane and East Oltorf Street

Work will start in November on a Southeast Austin project funded by the $720 million transportation bond Austin voters approved in 2016. The project at East Oltorf Street and Parker Lane will include adding a raised median on Oltorf, relocating a Capital Metro bus stop and adding pedestrian paths.
