Travis County justices of the peace announced in a press release April 30 that all nonessential court proceedings would be pushed to a date after June 1, in a modification of a standing order.

Court proceedings considered essential and thus still ongoing in Travis County include issuing birth and death certificates; writs of re-entry, retrieval and restoration; cases affecting the health and safety of a tenant; and proceedings "necessary to enforce a governmental entity's response to a COVID-19 declaration of state of disaster."

Notable postponed proceedings include most evictions, warrants for traffic citations and warrants for misdemeanors. Outstanding warrants for low-level citations and misdemeanors are suspended.

The updated order is a continuation of the Travis County Justice System's standing policies while coronavirus concerns persist.
