As work on the Oak Hill Parkway project moves forward, the Texas Department of Transportation, or TxDOT, announced June 24 the latest configuration near the intersection of Hwy. 290 and SH 71, also known as the Y.

The details

Eastbound traffic along SH 71 has been shifted to the newly finished elevated lanes, while westbound traffic will move onto the lanes formerly used by eastbound traffic.

Business access has become a right-in-right-out configuration, according to TxDOT.

Westbound drivers can use the U-turn before Fletcher Lane to reach local shopping centers such as Oak Hill Plaza and Center of the Hills. Eastbound drivers needing access to shops on the west side of SH 71 should use the U-turn near Oak Hill Plaza.

About the project

TxDOT is currently reconstructing Hwy. 290 in Oak Hill, transforming the existing four-lane, undivided roadway to a six-lane divided highway with both new frontage roads and 14 miles of shared-use paths.

New intersections will be constructed at Convict Hill Road, RM 1826, Scenic Brook Drive and Circle Drive where the highway will be sunken below the existing ground level and the cross street will remain at ground level.

In addition, an overpass for the Hwy. 290 mainlanes over William Cannon Drive will be built, along with new flyovers between Hwy. 290 and SH 71. At this location, the Hwy. 290 mainlanes will be lowered under SH 71.

The project is now more than halfway complete, according to an update earlier this year.
