Volunteers can help cleanup the Colorado River this May as part of a statewide campaign to keep Texas waterways clean.

The details

Trash Free Gulf, a program of the Gulf Trust, launched the campaign April 26, and it will run throughout the month of May. The campaign's goal is to prevent over 800 tons of trash from reaching the Gulf, according to a news release.

The specifics

On May 17, volunteers can help clean up the Colorado River from the 183 Bridge to the Texas River School with the help of local fly fishing guide All Water Guides and Cleanup the Colorado.

Volunteers can bring anything to float on the river, such as a canoe or kayak. Texas River School will also have boats available to borrow, or volunteers can clean nearby areas.

Various giveaways will be offered to volunteers courtesy of YETI and H-E-B.

Interested volunteers can sign up here. More waterway cleanups can also be found on the Trash Free Gulf website.
