Officials at Bernice Kiker Elementary School of Austin ISD announced March 28 that Principal Cory Matheny will resign from her position at the end of the school year.

What’s happening

Matheny has been principal at Kiker Elementary for four years, and will step down “to pursue other endeavors,” according to an email sent to families March 28.

Community members can express their thoughts on the qualities the school’s next principal should have in two ways:
  • By completing an online survey by April 29
  • By attending a meeting in-person at 6 p.m. on April 29 at Kiker Elementary, 5913 La Crosse Ave., Austin
Some community members will also participate in the interview process alongside district officials. Superintendent Matias Segura will make the final selection and notify the board of trustees.

What’s next

On May 13, candidates will be interviewed by the committee and Segura will notify the board of trustees on a finalist the week of May 20. Parents and staff will be introduced to the new principal the week of May 27.
