Although Georgetown has long been known for its older population—driven largely by the presence of Sun City and several other senior living facilities—the number of residents age 18 and younger increased 15.27% from 2019-2023, leading to the need for more pediatrician and family health care services.

3. $440M Hays County road bond ruled unlawful by district court
A Travis County district court ruled June 23 that Hays County commissioners violated the Texas Open Meetings Act, or TOMA, in placing a $440 million road bond—Proposition A—on the November 2024 ballot.
The ruling follows a lawsuit filed Oct. 24, 2024, by four Hays County property owners: Les Carnes, Cathy Ramsey, Jim Camp and Gabrielle Moore, who alleged commissioners failed to properly disclose key details in the Aug. 13, 2024, meeting agenda, including the bond’s purpose, amount, and proposed tax rate increase.

4. Williamson County will return to hand-marked ballots this November
Starting in November, registered voters in Williamson County will fill in their ballots by hand instead of scanning them and using a machine to vote electronically.
The change comes after the Trump Administration issued an executive order earlier this year to eliminate barcodes on ballots.

5. 1st major project complete in Austin airport expansion, FAA staffing falls short
After four years of planning, construction and groundbreaking ceremonies, city of Austin officials celebrated the completion of a major milestone in the multibillion-dollar airport expansion, opening a newly improved International Arrivals corridor June 18.
Though demand continues to rise, the airport still lacks sufficient air traffic controllers—something that is not overseen by airport or city officials, but by the Federal Aviation Administration, or FAA.

6. Developers break ground on latest shopping center on S. Bell Blvd.
Terra Halona, a real estate development firm based in Houston, broke ground on June 24 on Bell South, a new mixed-use shopping development along the S. Bell Blvd. corridor.
The development will be zoned for retail spaces, dining, banks and medical centers, and will encompass approximately 12,000 square feet.
