Round Rock moves forward with Hwy. 79 project
Round Rock began the process to collaborate with the Texas Department of Transportation on a project to improve Hwy. 79. City Council unanimously approved a $1.3 million contract with HDR for the preliminary engineer work at its meeting Feb. 27.
The Hwy. 79 project will create a six-lane divided roadway with a raised median and shared-use paths from IH 35 to just past AW Grimes Boulevard. There will also be an overpass over AW Grimes, with at-grade intersections everywhere else. In the future, there are plans for a flyover at Mays Street, Director of Utilities Michael Thane said.

Cedar Park weighs zoning changes to pave way for Trader Joe’s amid resident concerns
Cedar Park City Council is considering making zoning changes that could bring a Trader Joe’s grocery store to the city.
Council held its first reading and public hearing related to the rezoning of a 7.79-acre lot at the southwest corner of East Whitestone Boulevard and Arrow Point Drive at a Feb. 27 meeting. The developer has made multiple modifications to the project amid hearing concerns from nearby residents, said Austin McWilliams, a representative of CSW Development and executive vice president with Jones Lang LaSalle.

Hays County issues burn ban in response to wind conditions feeding vegetation fires
According to Texas A&M Forest Service, the Onion Creek Fire is currently at 75% containment. The fire burned to just under 200 acres, but due to efforts from several regional emergency services crews, there has been no loss of life or property, according to a Facebook post by Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra,
"A dozer line was established overnight to contain the fire, and Onion Creek served as a natural barrier to stop its progression. Today, crews are continuing mop-up efforts to ensure everything remains secure," Becerra said in the post.

Paris Baguette bakery cafe nears spring opening in Leander
Paris Baguette, an international bakery cafe chain, is set to open in Leander this spring.
The business will serve French-inspired cakes, pastries, sandwiches and premium coffee. The Leander franchise is owned by Sushma Koritala, who has a background in the IT industry.

Comal ISD adjusts attendance boundary for 2 elementary schools
The Comal ISD board of trustees approved to change the attendance boundary for Johnson Ranch and Indian Springs Elementary Schools Feb. 27.
Over the past two years, the district has taken multiple steps to optimize space at Johnson Ranch while prioritizing moving as few students as possible. But despite these efforts, mid-year enrollment projections exceeded expectations by over 150 students, which reinforced the need for adjusting attendance boundaries, Moffatt said.
