Some context
Ascension Seton Hays received the five-star rating even as the national average hospital rating decreased in 2025.
CMS reported a star score for 2,891 U.S. hospitals, with the national average star rating decreasing from 3.13 stars in 2024 to 3.08 stars in 2025, according to the release.Ascension officials said the hospital system had 41 hospitals receive a star rating, with the average rating across all facilities of 3.37 stars. Of those, 21 earned either a five- or four-star rating.
“There are not that many hospitals that reach this level of excellence,” said Ascension Seton Chief Clinical Officer, Dr. Samson Jesudass, in the release. “To earn three five-star ratings in four years shows consistency, focus, and a way of life centered on excellence. When you walk into this hospital, you can be confident you’re receiving the very best care.”

How it works
The CMS ratings are derived from 46 publicly reported quality measures across five key domains, including:
- Mortality
- Patient experience
- Readmission
- Safety of care
- Timely and effective care

Something to note
The hospital also received a 5-star rating in 2022 and 2024, according to previous Community Impact reporting.
“This award represents the top 10 percent of hospitals in the U.S.,” said Dr. Joshua Pozos, Chief Medical Officer at Ascension Seton Hays, in the release. “It cannot be accomplished without the dedication of so many–our nurses, physicians, senior leaders and partners who make patient safety and quality their daily mission.”
