New president named for Ascension Seton Hays and Bastrop hospitals
A new president has been named for two Ascension Seton locations in Central Texas. Megan Drake is the president of the Ascension Seton Hays Hospital in Kyle, alongside the hospital’s Bastrop location.
Drake has a background in health care administration and experience leading operational excellence, strategic growth initiatives and advancing quality patient care, according to a news release.

Buda hospital expands specialty care with sports orthopedics specialist
As summer begins and temperatures rise, community members increase their physical activity through sports and outdoor endeavors. Injuries often increase during this season as a result of overdone activity, said Dr. Eric Chapman, orthopedic surgeon.
Access to specialty care for sports medicine and orthopedics can be limited outside major cities, such as Austin, as demand rapidly grows, Chapman said.
Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Buda expanded its offerings to include sports orthopedics for pediatric, adolescent and adult patients by hiring Chapman.
The overview
The need for sports orthopedics is major in areas where specialists are not present, Chapman said. While access to care exists in South Austin and Kyle, the distance patients needed to travel from Buda was too great for injuries that needed to be quickly addressed.

Christus Health introduces vascular surgery at San Marcos hospital
While major cities such as Austin and San Antonio have a large number of vascular surgeons, the surrounding cities face increasingly limited access as populations grow, general and vascular surgeon Dr. Logan Warren said.
Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in San Marcos has recently brought on Warren to provide specialized vascular care to the region.
The two-minute impact
A New Braunfels native who studied across the state, Warren has seen the changing landscape of medical access as cities in Central Texas have grown.
“I've seen the growth of the area since I left for training,” Warren said. “There are going to be a lot more patients moving here, a lot more elderly patients who require vascular care in a minimally invasive fashion.”
