Two San Marcos city leaders are retiring in March.

San Marcos Library Director Diane Insley is retiring March 7, followed by San Marcos Human Resource Director Linda Spacek, who is retiring March 28—both of whom have served the city for over 30 years in different positions, according to a March 3 news release.

The overview

Insley served as a special services librarian, patron services supervisor, Librarian III, and library division manager, and finally, was named library director in March 2015, exactly 10 years ago. According to the news release, she has served San Marcos for around 37 years.

During her time as library director, she oversaw growth and development, including the $14.75 million bond project that was approved in 2017 that added 28,000 square feet to the library, according to the news release.

“I am proud of the work I’ve done for my community, and I am looking forward to visiting the library in retirement as a patron rather than an employee,” Insley said in the news release. “Retirement will give me time to continue reading and learning, spend time with friends and family, and travel.”
