Residents have the opportunity to help name a street in Kyle.

The city of Kyle is inviting the community to participate in a road renaming contest for South Goforth Road, with a survey open until Feb. 24, according to a Feb. 10 news release.

The overview

Kyle city staff identified the South Goforth Road Project as a candidate for renaming after reviewing recent road construction projects.

While the road was originally designed to connect with the existing Goforth Road, changes to the project alignment now require a new name to prevent confusion with existing addresses and improve emergency response efficiency, according to the news release.

Residents can submit road name suggestions through the survey. Contest rules include:
  • Names with profane, derogatory or discriminatory language will be disqualified.
  • Submissions reflecting history, ethnic and cultural diversity, native wildlife, or individuals significant to Kyle will receive extra consideration.
  • Proposed names will be reviewed to ensure they do not duplicate or closely resemble existing road names.
  • Each submission is recommended to include an appropriate suffix, such as “Street,” “Road,” “Avenue” or “Boulevard.”
The stretch of land includes portions of an existing roadway extending from Yarrington Road with a planned future extension northeast to High Road. No residents or businesses will be impacted by the renaming as there are currently no active addresses, according to the news release.

“All residents are encouraged to participate and be a part of shaping the future of our growing city!” Kyle officials said in the news release. “Whether it’s a name inspired by the land, the people or the natural surroundings, your suggestion could be the one that stands for generations to come.”
