The Hays CISD board of trustees will hold a special meeting Dec. 2 at 4:30 p.m. to consider what action might be needed regarding the pending resignation of trustee Willie Tenorio, Jr.
A public forum is scheduled for the meeting prior to a closed session, where the board will discuss whether to fill the vacancy with an appointment or call a special election. The board will consider accepting the resignation and appointing a person that currently resides in district 2 to fill the seat until May 2022, the next regular election for the school board.
Tenorio recently moved outside of single-member district 2 that he currently represents. Trustees are required to reside in the district they represent, said Tim Savoy, director of communications for Hays CISD. Tenorio's term doesn't expire until May 2023 and therefore would would require another election one year after the May 2022 election for a new trustee to serve a full three-year term.
The HCISD school board meets in the Kunkel Room inside the Historic Buda Elementary Campus, 300 San Marcos St., Buda.
