Urban Bird Hot Chicken

The Houston-based veteran-owned restaurant’s new location in downtown San Marcos serves Nashville-style hot chicken sandwiches and tenders, as well as specialty French fry dishes.Relocations

School Fuel


The local nonprofit relocated to its new permanent location on Feb. 6. School Fuel board member Molly Salinas told Community Impact that they were temporarily operating from Mendez Elementary School, and the new space is attached to the school’s new administration building. School Fuel was created in 2013 as a pilot program to provide weekend meals to eligible San Marcos CISD students. The organization now serves 1,300 students.In the News

Barber Factory


Barber Factory is officially under the new ownership of Bernardino Torres, Texas State and San Marcos High School alumnus. Torres said he aims to make the barbershop a family-friendly space with extended hours to accommodate busy work schedules.

Body Shop Movement Studio

The nonprofit is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Established in 1985, CASA of Central Texas serves Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe and Hays counties. Red Barn Bakery and Cafe


Lorinda Torres took over ownership of the Martindale restaurant in November. She said she worked at Red Barn Bakery on and off for three years, helping the previous owners Shoa and Tom Windmiller at the restaurant. Torres has made a few changes to the menu, which offers home-cooked foods like chicken-fried steak. She also plans to add a rentable event center to the space.Closings

Dharma Ranch
