The Round Rock ISD board of trustees will have to go back to the drawing board to find a police department after Williamson County commissioners refused to vote on a motion to supply resource officers.

The move comes two months after RRISD trustees voted to send a revised agreement to Williamson County requesting 27 sheriff’s office officers for the next five school years up to the 2026 spring semester.

Commissioner Terry Cook on Dec. 17 motioned to bring the agreement to a vote after a brief discussion and public comment period, but no other commissioners seconded the motion. Because of that, the movement died on the dais.

RRISD board President Chad Chadwell addressed the court before the vote Dec. 17. Chadwell said the school board was open to further revising some parts of the agreement.

“This is a fairly new process for us,” Chadwell told commissioners. “What we’re offering and what we request is a pass through.”

Commissioners did not say if they were open to further negotiations prior to the motion.
