Two projects bringing intersection improvements to FM 685 continue to move forward with the approval of a memorandum of understanding between the city of Pflugerville and the Texas Department of Transportation.

One project at FM 685 and East Pflugerville Parkway will add a median U-turn, replacing the left-turn lanes on FM 685. It will eventually expand the intersection to six lanes with displaced left turns.

The other project at FM 685 and Copper Mine Drive will add a new right-turn lane and signal on the SH 130 frontage road.

The agreement with TxDOT, which Pflugerville City Council approved on May 9, allows the city to perform work in TxDOT right of way.

It also stipulates traffic flow on FM 685 must not be reduced while the project is under construction and requires a pedestrian-initiated signal be included at the intersection of FM 685 and Copper Mine.

The agreement comes after a yearlong study of the FM 685 corridor recommended the projects in February. City materials state they are intended to improve safety and traffic flow.

Design work is in progress on both projects.
