Pflugerville’s Zola Park and Falcon Pointe Splash Pad will receive upgrades to make the spaces more accessible and provide additional shade, following City Council’s approval July 9.

The gist

The existing playground at Zola Park, at 17401 Zola Lane, will be replaced, while the trail will be converted from a decomposed granite trail to a concrete trail.

Parks and Recreation Department Director Shane Mize said the concrete trail as well as new safety surfacing on the playground area will be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

“So it’s going to be a complete ADA facility where someone with a wheelchair can go on to the property,” he said.

Zola Park will also get new fitness equipment to allow adults the opportunity to exercise and additional shading will be installed over the play area. The cost of improvements is around $570,000, which Mize said will come from development fees dedicated to parklands.

What else?

The playground at Falcon Pointe Splash Pad, located at 1813 Tranquility Lane, will also be replaced, as it’s 15 years old—the industry standard for a playground’s full lifetime, Mize said. The city will also install new shading and rubber safety surfacing. The project will cost about $138,000.
