The Travis County Emergency Services District No. 2 is holding a grand opening celebration Oct. 28 for its sixth fire station.

The new facility, which will service the Pflugerville area, will include three bays and cost around $7.4 million to build.

Construction of Fire Station No. 6, which began in February 2022, came in response to an increase in call volume the district has seen in recent years. Mark Moellenberg, Travis County ESD No. 2 assistant chief, said in the last five years, the district has experienced a 32% increase in call volume and a 15% increase in population. While the ESD plans to host a grand opening celebration next week, the station is expected to be fully operational in the next one to two months.
