Early voting results in the Nov. 5 elections show Melody Ryan in the lead for Pflugerville City Council Place 5, with 11,016, or 57.65%, of the initial ballots cast.
Incumbent Jim McDonald received 8,092, or 42.35%, of the early votes, as shown by unofficial election results from Travis and Williamson counties.
About the candidates
McDonald has held the Place 5 seat for the last three years.
His bid for re-election centers on fiscally sustainable solutions to future growth as well as ensuring water supply, accord to a Q&A with Community Impact. McDonald said he sees traffic congestion as one of Pflugerville's greatest challenges.
Ryan is a self-employed certified public accountant. Ryan said she would prioritize fiscal responsibility, community amenities, business environment and strategic growth if she secures the council seat, according to a Q&A with Community Impact.
Some context
In early voting, there were 480,364 ballots cast in Travis County. This number makes up 51.93% of Travis County registered voters, according to previous Community Impact reporting. There were 19,073 voters who cast a ballot for the Pflugerville City Council Place 5 race in Travis County.
A portion of Pflugerville’s voters reside in Williamson County, where 262,316 residents cast their ballots early in-person or via mail. This makes up 58.59% of Williamson County's registered voters, according to county documents. Thirty-five residents voted for Pflugerville City Council Place 5 at the time of early voting.
Polls closed at 7 p.m., but voters who were in line at 7 p.m. are still able to cast ballots.
