Hutto ISD is creating a new student-driven communication program to share stories across middle and high school campuses in the district.

What you need to know

The district will hold a parent information session at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 9 at the HISD administration building, 200 College St., Hutto, in the administrative conference room where school board meetings are held, where district staff will field questions about its upcoming student influencer program.

Eliska Padilla, communications manager, said the district is seeking 10 to 12 student influencers—about one or two at each middle and high school campus—to create one or two pieces of social media content per month. Content created by students will showcase district programs and events, as well as amplify student voice in district communications.

In their own words

"We're hoping that they can learn not only about social media and branding, but even event coverage and public speaking," Padilla said. "It's more than social media, although social media will be a large portion of it. They'll be kind of an extension of the communications team."

The details

Good candidates for the influencer program will come with a recommendation from their teacher and guidance counselor, Padilla said. Students' existing social media accounts will also need to show a good representation of what a Hutto Hippo is, she said.

Students in the program will create social media-focused content that will be managed by administrators in the district, as well as Padilla herself, she said.

What's next?

Applications for the student influencer program are due Sept. 15. The selection process is expected to be completed by the end of the month, Padilla said, with plans to fully launch the program in October.
