Hutto ISD has a new "Head Hippo" after the district's board of trustees voted to hire a superintendent.

In a nutshell

The HISD board of trustees voted to hire Jeni Neatherlin as new superintendent Aug. 27.

In their own words

"I'll tell you this, Hippo Nation: we are going to do some really cool things," Neatherlin said. "We're going to do them quickly, and we're going to continue to just love and embrace diversity and everybody and everything that they bring. I'm going to give you my all, and I just want to say thank you."

What parents should know

Neatherlin previously served as the superintendent for nearby Granger ISD, also located in Williamson County, from 2021 until her hiring.

She has 23 years of experience as an educator, serving in executive, administrative, coaching and classroom roles in Salado ISD, Midland ISD and Llano ISD. She earned her bachelor's degree from Angelo State University and a master's of educational administration from Lamar University.

How we got here

Trustees concluded its weekslong search for a new superintendent by naming Neatherlin as the sole finalist Aug. 6. In this search, the district received more than 25 applications to fill the position leading the district.

Neatherlin's hiring comes about four months after former Superintendent Raúl Peña resigned from the position. Just seven months after he was hired to lead HISD as its next superintendent, Peña tendered his resignation to the board, which was accepted during an April 25 meeting.
