What's happening?
The H-E-B Grocery Co. announced construction has begun on a new store in Pflugerville.
The July 12 announcement came during a groundbreaking event at 2641 E. Pflugerville Parkway, where the 127,000-square-foot store will be located.
Several leaders within Pflugerville City Council, Pflugerville ISD, Travis County Emergency Services District No. 2 and the Pflugerville Police Department attended the event, which included a speech from Mayor Victor Gonzales.
Zooming In
The company did not say how much the project will cost, but in March H-E-B filed a pair of construction permits with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation indicating a total investment of $48 million.
A July 12 news release from H-E-B states the company plans to hire more than 500 employees at the new location, which will become the third store with a Pflugerville address.
The breakdown
The release states the new H-E-B, which will be on the southeast corner of SH 130 and E. Pflugerville Parkway, across from the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, will come with several features and amenities, including a True Texas BBQ restaurant. Other features include:
- Full service bakery and tortilleria
- Deli
- Wine and beer department with sampling stations
- Full-service meat market and seafood center
- Meal Simple area
- Cooking Connection area
- Sushiya station
- Texas Backyard station with outdoor products
"This store on this side of [SH] 130 is a plus because a lot of our development obviously is moving and going east, and we have a lot of challenges in meeting the expectations of citizens on this side." Gonzales said.
