It’s difficult to pin down exactly how to categorize Hutto’s Downtown Hall of Fame.

At least, that’s what owners Judi and Sean Smith said.

The Downtown Hall of Fame has expanded five times since it opened in December 2011 and now boasts a number of different dining and entertainment options.

All told, the business offers live music, billiards, karaoke, trivia, cornhole, an outdoor patio, sports on several televisions, three bars and a full food menu centered on what they call “craft burgers.” From the Fried Mac & Cheese Burger to the Habanero Bacon Cheeseburger, Sean said each has an element unique to the Hall of Fame.

“We take a lot of pride in our food from buttering our bread to locally sourcing our meat,” he said. “You’re getting fresh food every time.”

Judi also mentioned the venue’s extensive alcohol menu with several beers on tap and signature cocktails.

Judi and Sean both have a background in restaurant management, and shortly after they moved to Hutto from Round Rock in 2009, they decided they wanted to be their own bosses.

“We loved being in the customer service industry,” Judi said. “Everything from the service side of it to being able to put out amazing food and great drinks and have a fun destination for people to go to. Since we had managed places together doing that, we wanted to open our own location.”

Now with a 9-year-old daughter, Goldie, the Smiths preside over what they describe as an immersive bar and grill experience.

As for the origin of the name Downtown Hall of Fame, Sean said that’s simple.

“The hall of fame represents sports and live music,” he said. “They both share hall of famers, right? You’ve got the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and then you have the NFL, NBA, things of that nature.”

In addition to events including a monthly open mic night and karaoke every Saturday, the Hall of Fame hosts musicians weekly.

Though the Smiths are proud of each element of the Downtown Hall of Fame, they return to the evolution of the menu to explain their continued success.

“When we first opened, we had a lot of the same people in here every day,” Sean said. “Since we’ve brought in craft burgers, we’ve just got so many people coming and going. There’s a lot of familiar faces, but it’s not just the same people every day anymore.”
