Austin Resource Recovery, the department that provides curbside trash and recycling services for Austin residents, will not make up collections that were missed due to Winter Storm Landon, which brought freezing temperatures and icy road conditions to Central Texas last week.

According to ARR, no collections took place on Feb. 3-4 due to the winter weather, meaning more than 37% of ARR customers missed their pickup day. ARR said 19.4% of their customers receive curbside services on Thursday and 17.9% have Friday as their collection day.

Alyssa Armstrong, a public information specialist for ARR, said in an email those who had their collection day canceled are asked to hold their cart-based collection until their next scheduled service day.

Because ARR collects recycling every two weeks, the department confirmed that some customers will go a month between recycling pick up.

"Due to the continued staffing shortage due to COVID-19, we were unable to allot the necessary drivers to collect missed collections and resume their regular collections following the storm," Armstrong said in an email. "We thank our customers for their patience and understanding."
