Papalote Taco House opened its second Austin location June 15 in the Austinville 78750 shopping center, 13219 N. US 183, Ste. 100, alongside other Austin businesses such as The Soup Peddler and Bird's Barbershop.
Owner Sergio Varela opened the original location six years ago on South Lamar Boulevard. He also owns Azul Tequila.
Varela said he chose Northwest Austin for a second location based on customer feedback. Ending up at Austinville 78750 was the work of Amy's Ice Creams co-owners Steve and Amy Simmons who approached numerous South Austin-based businesses about opening in Northwest Austin. The Soup Peddler opened in November, and Bird's Barbershop opened June 1. Only one spot remains left in the center, and Austin Trail Running Co. is slated to open soon.
Varela said his tacos are authentic Mexican tacos with style. His favorites, as well as the top sellers, include the alambres with grilled steak, bacon, poblano peppers and provolone as well as the tortas de coliflor with cauliflower cakes, huajillo sauce, cabbage and queso fresco. Tacos cost $3.50 each.
