The Austin community has a handful of new options to check out from a jerk chicken restaurant and a bakery to a Tex-Mex and fried chicken eatery coming soon. This list is not comprehensive.

1. Island Riddim Jerk & BBQ Grill

Owned by Wayne and Dianne Anderson, the restaurant offers signature Jamaican dishes. The menu includes jerk chicken, BBQ ribs, brown stew snapper, curry chicken, curry goat, oxtail and other dishes. Main dishes are served with rice, peas and mixed vegetables.

2. Neon Belly Coffee & Bakery

The shop serves a variety of coffee drinks such as the baklava latte, horchata latte and iced orange macchiato, along with classic options such as cold brew, drip coffee and espressos. The shop also serves matcha lattes and a variety of teas, while its pastry menu includes sourdough bites, cookies, muffins, scones and gluten-free desserts.

3. Parley


The business was founded by Bar Hacienda, Bar Fino and Here Nor There alums Terance Robson and Jack “Slim” Hogan. Both from Ireland, Robson and Hogan stated the new business is a love letter to the pubs they grew up going to. The new coffee shop and bar is a partnership with Korean-American restaurant Oseyo and coffee brand Idlewild. During the day, community members can enjoy a coffee bar with espresso and light bites. At night, the space turns into a bar featuring signature cocktails, beer, natural wines and nonalcoholic options.

4. Winston’s: Coffee, Provisions & Pizza

A new location of Winston’s: Coffee, Provisions & Pizza opened in December in the Hill Country Galleria. The eatery offers breakfast, lunch and dinner options, from fresh-roasted coffee and donuts to an all-day menu with Italian sandwiches and Neapolitan-style pizza. The business takes the place of Foliepop’s, which formerly occupied the space, according to previous Community Impact reporting.

5. De Nada Cantina

De Nada Cantina is planning to open a second location at the former El Mercado restaurant in South Austin in January. The East Austin Tex-Mex staple is known for its tacos and margaritas served in pink cups, including happy hour specials and a late-night menu. The restaurant opened off East Cesar Chavez Street in 2021, according to previous Community Impact reporting.

6. Tumble 22

With a total of nine locations, the restaurant is known for its Texas-raised chicken that's hand-breaded and tumbled 22 times for a crunchy texture. The menu includes spicy chicken sandwiches and tenders with various heat levels, plus sides and desserts. Drinks options include beers and specialty cocktails, as well as nonalcoholic options.
