Although a closure to recreational boats on Lake Travis, Lake Marble Falls, Inks Lake and Lake LBJ was lifted on June 10 at noon, a watercraft ban will continue at Lake Austin, Lady Bird Lake and the Colorado River downstream of Longhorn Dam through noon on June 13, according to the Austin Fire Department.

Because floodgate operations at Mansfield and Tom Miller dams remain in place, Austin Fire Chief Rhoda Mae Kerr extended a waterway ban for Lake Austin, Lady Bird Lake and the Colorado River. The ban will be reevaluated June 13.

In place since June 1, the ban was precipitated by the opening of the flood gates. Floodgate operations create high and swift waters, which make recreational, commercial and navigational use of the lakes unsafe.

Any watercraft found illegally operating in the waterway ban area may be impounded.
