1. Colorado Street

Colorado Street between Seventh and 10th streets will be reconstructed to allow for utility adjustments as well as improvements to the storm drainage system, curbs and sidewalks. Estimated timeline: November 2015-summer 2017

2. Second Street

The Second Street bridge, or the “Butterfly Bridge,” had two arches installed in late August and early September as part of an ongoing effort to extend the roadway over Shoal Creek to West Avenue. The road connection, once complete, will provide access to the new Seaholm redevelopment and upcoming new Central Library from San Antonio Street. Estimated timeline: June 2013-summer 2016

3. MoPac

MoPac expansion efforts continue as crews work to expand bridges at RM 2222, Windsor Street and Westover Road by the end of the year. Workers will also continue to install sound walls between Enfield Road and RM 2222 throughout the fall, and the northbound Enfield Road off-ramp will be paved this fall. Excavation for a southbound express lane underpass to downtown Austin should begin in late October to early November. Prior to that, the northbound Cesar Chavez/Sixth Street on-ramp will be realigned, and northbound MoPac north of Lady Bird Lake will be temporarily realigned. Estimated timeline: October 2013-late 2016

4.  Rainey Street improvements

Ongoing construction work includes new sidewalks from Driskill to River streets as well as on the south side of Cummings Street and the east side of East Avenue from Cummings to River streets. New sidewalks, trees and stone benches will be installed on the south side of Cummings between East Avenue and Rainey Street by fall. The Cummings Street thoroughfare will temporarily double as an Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail detour to meet accessibility requirements. A sidewalk outside of No Va Kitchen & Bar will also be extended to match pedestrian facilities outside the adjacent Millennium Rainey Street, a new apartment complex slated to open in 2016. Travel lanes will return to normal between Davis and Driskill streets upon completion of The Millennium, at which point the city will complete sidewalk improvements to the west portion of Rainey Street. Additionally, sidewalk improvements will be completed on the south side of Davis Street from Rainey Street to an alleyway to the west. Hotel Van Zandt developers will complete the sidewalk on the other side of the alley to Red River Street. There are plans in the works to also slightly modify the Rainey Street turnabout at River Street; however, city staffers are still working on a design concept for the changes. Timeline: contingent on non-city development Cost: Approximately $645,000 Funding sources: 2010 mobility bond money
