Texas Scottish Rite Hospital Center for Excellence in Sports Medicine is moving from its location inside Children's Medical Center Plano to a new larger facility at 7000 W. Plano Parkway. The new center is set to open Sept. 21 and will offer a number of specialized pediatric services until its operations will be moved to a permanent campus in Frisco.
The two-story, 15,000 square-foot facility in Plano will provide treatment for sports-related orthopedic conditions and concussions. Over the next year, its services will expand to include scoliosis clinics, general orthopedic clinics and physical therapy and hand services, said Jeremy Howell, vice president of Texas Scottish Rite Hospitals. The center will also offer sports injury prevention and educational information for young athletes.
"Right now we're at about 3,700 square feet [in Children's Medical Center Plano], so the added space will allow us to do more clinics and imaging services," Howell said. "The goal for this [new] Plano location is to bridge the gap until our Frisco location is open. Then we will move all of that to Frisco."
TSRH's north campus will be located at Lebanon Road and the Dallas North Tollway. The 40-acre, 200,000 square-foot facility will be an extension of the original Dallas campus. A groundbreaking date for the Frisco location has not been set but TSRHC expects the facility to be completed in 2017.
The move into the temporary location in Plano represents the hospital's efforts to meet the growing demand for services in North Dallas, spokesperson Manny Mendoza said.
Under the direction of Assistant Chief of Staff Philip Wilson, alongside Henry B. Ellis, Jr. and Shane Miller, the TSRHC Center for Excellence in Sports Medicine is actively involved in research regarding the etiology, treatment and prevention of pediatric sports injuries and joint problems. This leading edge practice will be the primary focus of both the new Plano and Frisco clinics, Mendoza said.
"Research is huge part of what we do. We're trying to make the patient experience better and we're trying to treat patients with most innovative methods available," he said.
